THE BOOK OF DOORS by Gareth Brown (2/13/24): I’m a sucker for any book that is comped to one of my all-time favorites, THE NIGHT CIRCUS. Many try, very few ever come close to matching my love for that book. THE BOOK OF DOORS is going to try, and I’m hearing really great buzz for this debut full of magic, adventure, and romance, about a woman who discovers a book that can open magical doors.
THE BOOK OF LOVE by Kelly Link (2/13/24): I’ve been a huge fan of Kelly Link’s short stories for a long time. They’re always so unique and different and left-of-center, usually fantasy-based; this is her debut novel, and it sounds excellent, about a group of teens who become pawns in a supernatural power struggle. Also “love” that this title comes out Valentine’s week. Feels very on-brand.
BIG TIME by Ben Winters (3/5/24): Ben H. Winters is one of my favorite grounded genre authors working today. His ‘GOLDEN STATE’ is one of the coolest dystopic books i’ve read in a long time, and ‘THE LAST POLICEMAN’ series is a classic at this point. His latest is a speculative, corporate espionage thriller, and I have very high hopes.
THE LAST MURDER AT THE END OF THE WORLD by Stuart Turton (5/21/24): the author of ‘THE SEVEN AND A HALF DEATHS OF EVELYN HARDCASTLE’ is back, and if anyone can do twisty puzzle-box mystery, it’s Stuart Turton, who again returns with
